Blog #3: Relationships Between Shots
I chose a scene from one of my favorite movies: Love & Basketball. The cuts in this scene are continuity editing. The scene begins with an action shot where Quincy scores a shot in his high school basketball game. After the shot, there is a graphic match shot of the crowd cheering for Quincy, then an eyeline match of Monica where we see her character reacting to the shot. From there, it cuts back to Quincy and the basketball game. The scene then cuts to Shawnee and Monica talking to one another using the 180 rule and a jump cut to Shawnee's friend as she chuckles from overhearing Shawnee's comment then there is another cut back to Shawnee and Monica talking. The scene cuts back to Quincy playing basketball and then again back to Shawnee and Monica's conversation where we see also see another eyeline match to show that Monica is concentrating on the game.
